I was off doing awesome stuff the last few days and I missed the Gawke Media purchase. Is there a good summary of what is known beyond the fact that Gawker is shutting down? Any word on Gizmodo and Jalopnik?

Gawker only so far. Makes sense. Gawker is the namesake to the company that went down in flames. Money maker or not, it’s a terrible PR nightmare. Having said that, I think that the other sites have a terrific following and will continue. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Please excuse any typing errors. I’ve had a few.

Only Gawker is shutting down... All the other sites remain. Changes will probably happen in the future, but as of right now, it keeps on going normally.

Gawker is being killed in a shed, the others have been spared for now

All of Gawker Media’s assets were bought but none of the liabilities by Univision. Only Gawker.com is being shutdown because the name is toxic at this point.

what they said. gawker.com is no more. the other sites should live on.
which I’m OK with. the rest of the sites shouldn’t suffer just because Nick Denton is a piece of shit.

I think the gawker staff is still terrific even if they’re being shutdown. If in a few months or years they come back with a news site under a new name, I’d be happy. I’m just glad that we're still here and not fucked.
